CrossFit is definitely the fastest way to getting your body back in shape. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 6 months.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in the spring of 2013. I’ve taken a few breaks, but for the most part have stayed consistent.

Were you scared to start CrossFit? If so, what motivated you to start?

I was for sure scared! After I had my son, I started working out at the Boys Town Field House on my lunch hours.  I would see a group of people doing crazy workouts, while I stuck to my elliptical. One day, one of them asked me if I would like to join them some time and try it out. I was super hesitant, because I was out of shape from having a baby, but figured this would be the best route to get fit! So, one day I joined them. The workout was awful, but I somehow managed to have fun and figured I might as well try it for a week or so and see what I thought. I was hooked! I was going 5-6 days a week and became one of those people that talk about CrossFit constantly. 😊I worked out with this same group of people until 2016 when I decided to venture out and join Climate, where I was welcomed with open arms!

Did you have an athletic background before starting CrossFit?

I did play tennis, volleyball, and golf in high school. However, I spent a lot of my early twenties partaking in the occasional party and late-night Taco Bell run.  So, I basically started my fitness from scratch again.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since beginning CrossFit?

I completed a Tough Mudder. I HATE running more than anything, so I never believed I would have the endurance to complete a 13-mile obstacle course. I ran this with my CrossFit friends who assured me that our workouts would prepare me for this and sure enough, I was able to tackle every obstacle.

What has been the most challenging thing for you?

I get inside my head a lot and underestimate my strength. Trying to break through my mental road blocks has been tough, but rewarding when I do.

What time do you usually take classes?

11:37am 😉

How has CrossFit benefited you outside of the gym physically and/or mentally?

We are a very active family and I have two little ones at home, so I am constantly moving around. Life is just so much easier when you are fit. One minute I’m getting tackled, jumping on the trampoline, playing catch, etc. and I know that my kid’s childhoods would not be as enjoyable if I didn’t do CrossFit. I go to CrossFit, so that I can keep up with them, but it’s also my daily break for myself. Like most parents, I am busy, and I think it’s important to take time for yourself. I am a happier person when I go to CrossFit and get my me time, so that benefits everyone around me.

You recently had a baby. Do you feel that CrossFit helped you prepare for pregnancy and/or labor? Has CrossFit helped you post-pregnancy?

Absolutely! I couldn’t continue with CrossFit for my entire pregnancy, like some women do, but I still had a healthy foundation for my body to be prepared. There are so many benefits to CrossFit, like strength, but also mobility, which is important when you are pregnant.

CrossFit has been amazing post-pregnancy.  I gained 60-70lbs with each of my kiddos (Lola did weigh almost 10lbs though😊).  I eat healthy most of the time and work out, so for the small break I got with being pregnant, my motto was “treat yoself!”  So, I did. It’s way more fun putting that weight on though, than taking it off. CrossFit is definitely the fastest way to getting your body back in shape. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 6 months. I still have some toning to do, but the weight is gone and I feel great!

Give us three words that describe you.

Competitive, outgoing, hard-working

Strict Barbell Press

What’s something we may not know about you?

I have never been injured.  No broken bones, stitches, sprains… I hope I didn’t just jinx this.

What is your favorite activity outside of the gym?

Just being outside playing with my family.  We have a ton of little kids in our neighborhood, so it’s always fun to see my kids running around with the neighbors. I’m all about leading by example, so we try to be active whenever possible.

What is your favorite healthy meal?

I make a sweet potato hash with eggs and ground turkey.  So good!

What is your favorite “cheat” meal

Cherry dipped, chocolate ice cream cone, topped with peanuts and rainbow sprinkles – in a dish. Not specific at all 😉

If you could master one skill in the gym that you currently don't have, what would it be?

Snatches…  Completely mental here

What's your favorite movement?

Burpees, which is weird considering most people hate them

Burpess over parallettes

What's your least favorite movement?

RUNNING – my mom told me when I was 8 that I looked funny while I was running during a softball game.  I’ve been self-conscious about it ever since. Haha, thanks mom!

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about trying CrossFit?

Just go for it!  The workouts look intimidating, but every movement is scalable to your ability. It is so fun to accomplish new movements, see changes in your body/mobility, and lift heavy things. You will meet great people and have fun!
