How long have you been doing CrossFit/Weightlifting?
Started CrossFit in May 2016; Weightlifting in May 2017.
Were you scared to start? If so, what motivated you to start?
Just like a lot of people I never thought I was “fit enough” to start CrossFit. Then you realize, that’s a big reason you’re actually doing it — to get fit (or fitter)! My boyfriend had been doing CrossFit for several years when we met, he was the first to introduce me to it.
Did you have an athletic background before starting CrossFit/Weightlifting?
I played basketball year ‘round from 6-18 years old. Planned to play in college, but I severed my ACL so that didn’t end up panning out.
What has been your biggest accomplishment since beginning CrossFit/Weightlifting?
Getting fit. Sounds broad, but getting stronger and wanting to be the best I can pushed me to get my nutrition in check and lose over 15lbs while hitting PR’s along the way.
What has been the most challenging thing for you?
Mental strength: I have bad days, but I try not to let it consume me entirely and move on to the next part of programming. Some days this is easier said than done.
What time do you usually workout?
Afternoons/early evenings. Usually sometime between 4:30-6pm.
CrossFit and weightlifting are sports where the “older” athlete are able to thrive and compete. Give us your thoughts on be a Master’s athlete.
The Master’s weightlifting community (and generally the entire weightlifting community) is pretty awesome and very inclusive. Everyone wants the other to succeed as it’s really a sport where you are competing against yourself. You have to make your lifts at the end of the day.
You recently competed at the Arnold Classic. How was that experience?
It was so awesome! While I didn’t perform at my best it was great to cheer on Coach Tony and some of my other favorite lifters: Mattie Rogers, CJ Cummings, Kristen Pope. The fitness community was

What’s something we may not know about you?
People know I’m vegan, but I’ve actually been vegan for 15 years this past January. I love the animals!
What is your favorite activity outside of the gym?
Anything I can do with my dogs.
What is your favorite healthy meal?
Tofu, brown rice, broccoli.
What is your favorite “cheat” meal
A cinnamon roll bigger than my face.
If you could master one skill in the gym that you currently don't have, what would it be?
The double bounce clean!

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about trying CrossFit/weightlifting?
Everyone is intimidated at first, but there is no expectation that you must know any of the movements the day you walk in. That’s what the coaches are there for. Trust yourself, your coaches, and the process.
