How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Since May 2017
Were you scared to start CrossFit? If so, what motivated you to start?
I wanted to join for about 2-3 years and always was afraid to go try it. My friend Lisa Drew started CrossFit and with her pushing a little I went to my first class and was loved it!
Did you have an athletic background before starting CrossFit?
I have always worked out in some capacity. I did 3 marathons in my mid 30’s and belonged to a gym all the time. I also did Bikram Yoga for about 3 years and was learning to teach Yoga at Bhadra Yoga.
What has been your biggest accomplishment since beginning CrossFit?
Finally being able to use my upper body and do some of the weight bearing exercises. (ring dips, push ups ).
What has been the most challenging thing for you?
Anything with the weight above your head such as the Squat Snatch. I can finally squat a lot more than when I first started but I have a long ways to go!
What time do you usually take classes?
I am consistently at the 11:30 class, unless I am in Florida for the winter. I love my 11:30 peeps!
How has CrossFit benefited you outside of the gym physically and/or mentally?
Physically I am stronger and starting to see some muscle definition in my arms which I freaking love. On the golf course I am hitting the ball further with every club in my bag. Mentally I just feel healthier mind and body wise.

You do a lot of traveling, do you continue CrossFit when you are away?
Yes I have been to about 4 different CrossFit boxes, most of them in Florida. I went to 3 different Boxes to find the one I will use when I am in Florida. There is nothing like your home gym however, I find all CrossFit people to be welcoming and encouraging.
What’s something we may not know about you?
I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since my mid 30’s however, my working out has kept it pretty much in remission. I have always listened to my body and it was caught very early which I am very thankful for. My doctor is impressed that I am doing CrossFit and says he wishes he had more patients like me vs just relying only on drugs to battle the RA. I think CrossFit helps so much with mobility and this is huge for anyone with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
What is your favorite activity outside of the gym?
I love to play Golf just about every day!
What is your favorite healthy meal?
I make this chicken sandwich from ground chicken and it is delish!
What is your favorite “cheat” meal.
I love Pepperoni Pizza.
If you could master one skill in the gym that you currently don't have, what would it be?
A wall hand stand…I know I can do it I am just a big chicken! Box Jump would be 2nd.
What's your favorite movement?
I love Box Jumps. (step ups for me)!
What's your least favorite movement?
What would you tell someone who is on the fence about trying CrossFit?
I have actually had this conversation with many different people. CrossFit is for anyone. The way CrossFit is structured with modifications for all movements and weight lifting works for the person who does not work out or for someone like me who did workout but not weightlifting wise. Tony was my coach when I started and he would always make sure I knew what Modification I could do before the WOD started. Both Tony and Mark do a very good job of this before each WOD with the different level of athletes they have in the gym. I never feel bad for not being able to do what everyone else is doing because for me it’s what I can do today, and I will continue to work hard to get stronger and my goal is someday to be able to do everything RX!
